Tarte Showstopper Palette Review

Every year Tarte comes out with a circular palette that's limited edition - last year it was the Rainforest After Dark palette (I think it's still available though) and there were several other before that. What makes these palettes so great is that they come with a full size blush, a bronzer, a highlighter and six eyeshadows - so this allows you to make a 'full face' using a single palette.

The palette costs $38, and this is actually a great deal because a full size Tarte blush is $26. So you're getting a bronzer and a highlight, plus six eyeshadows, for $12!

Indeed Labs Hydraluron Moisture Serum Review

It's so strange that I haven't yet spoken about one of my favorite skincare products. I mean, I've been using this for several weeks and I'm actually going to be repurchasing it soon - which is a HUGE deal!

The product in question is Hydraluron, a product manufactured by Indeed Laboratories, which is a Canadian-based company.

And this product is so awesome.

What's in my travel makeup bag?

I've been visiting my brother (along with my parents) for the week and that of course means packing stuff - something that I'm not very good at as I tend to panic and bring everything under a lot of "what if" scenarios ("I should take some laundry detergent, what if he runs out?" - really Aditi? You can't just buy some? GUH.)

This time I was determined to keep it simple - well, okay. I kinda-sorta had to keep it simple because I knew I was going to be hanging out with my parents for the most part and it didn't seem to make sense to take all the "essentials" because - let's face it - I'm not going to be using them for the most part!

I did want to take some things though, so that I could create a fresh, simple look, with the option to go a little bit more dramatic if I wanted to.

I use a Sephora bag that I got a while ago as a freebie. It's sturdy, I think it's cute, and it holds all my makeup and brushes easily without looking bulky and overstuffed.

Let's Get Crafty! - DIY Lip Scrub

Let's veer off course again into the land of do-it-yourself! The first time I ventured into the land of DIY, it was to turn products that didn't work for me to something that did - and so the Revlon Sultry Gel Blush was born.

This time round, I'm DIY-ing to test out a theory. I've read a lot of stuff about lip scrubs - some people love it, some people don't have any feelings towards it. Most people agree that 1. store-made versions are expensive, and 2. a home-made one is just as effective.

I looked up various "recipes" online and all of them had a basic sugar and oil mixture. A few had variations using coffee grinds, essential oils, honey, and even food dyes! After a few trial runs, I found something that I rather like.

I'm a huge coffee lover, so the idea of using coffee grinds really appealed to me. This has two advantages; it smells amazing, and because it's a larger sized particle, it gives you a milder scrub.

I also wanted to incorporate brown sugar (you can use regular sugar instead) to give it a taste and also because it's a smaller size particle, it gives a more 'scrubbier' scrub.

Honey is a great moisturizer and of course tastes wonderful as well. It also has anti-microbial properties (honey will not sustain growth of microorganisms because of it's low water content)

Jojoba oil is another wonderful moisturizer, and in addition it has some fungicidal properties (there's actually a patent for jojoba wax esters).

Mini Mondays - L'Occitane Hand Cream

I've never really been one for hand creams - sure, I have a couple, but I've never understood why other people like them so much. I suppose it's because the ones I have aren't very effective.

If you've ever seen my hands, you'll understand why I was fascinated by hand creams; my fingers are perpetually cracked cuticles and I have lots of hangnails. It's unfortunately because of my dishwashing habits, I'm sure (there are probably other reasons, but I'm sticking to this!)

Now, I can't say I've never heard of L'Occitane, especially their hand creams. No, I have. I've heard everyone sing their praises, known quite a few bloggers who have them down as their Holy Grail.

So why didn't I try them before?

Makeup Geek Vegas Lights Palette Review

I'm so excited to do this review; this has been one of the products on my wishlist for a very long time and I can't believe I finally have it!

Makeup Geek is a brand started and owned by Marlena. From what I understand she started out with a Youtube channel and a website, and then expanded into creating makeup.

I own a few of her products, and I've always been fairly impressed with everything.

The Vegas Lights palette was a supposed to be a limited edition palette, but given that it's still around I'm assuming it was so popular they decided to make it permanent.

This is a good thing, because if you're warm toned and deeper skinned, you're going to want this palette!

In lieu of an actual post, here are a series of cartoons explaining my mentality when it comes to sales.

Because I forgot to write up a review post.

All images belong to Hyperbole and a half, which is a hilarious blog that you need to read if you haven't done so already.

Let's get to it.

Rinse and repeat, ad infinitum.

Sephora Chic Week Loot!

Sephora's having their annual Chic Week sale, which of course means a perfect time to haul all the pretties I've been eyeing for a while.

Unlike last year, I was much more prudent and did lots more research before buying anything, and I made sure I tried out everything in-store before making a decision (yes, I know, I should be doing this all the time, but sometimes it doesn't happen okay?)

The main things I was looking at were concealers (thanks, insomnia!) and a foundation, since that's where I'm lacking. You might remember that I purged a lot of my concealer stash and I wanted to keep it to two or three essentials.

Lip Balm Legends

Lip balm is such an essential for me it gets so easily overlooked - until, of course, I have chapped lips that, at best, make my lipstick look bad, at worst, start bleeding.

I've tried a lot - and I don't just say this lightly -a lot of lip balms, and while most were just meh and unworthy of repeat purchase, a few of them are truly standouts.

ColourPop Lippie Stix Review (Limited Edition Spring 2015)

Continuing with the ColourPop reviews (I talked about the Super Shock shadows here), in addition to the limited edition eyeshadows released for Spring, they've also released some Lippie Stix.

I own several of the Lippie Stix from the original line (and a few that are limited edition from last year's holidays that I unfortunately did not review in time, which makes reviewing them now obsolete). In order to avoid making the same mistake, I decided to make reviewing these a priority, so that you could still get access to them if you wanted to!

ColourPop Super Shock Shadows Review (Limited Edition Spring 2015)

ColourPop is an up-and-coming, new-ish brand that only has an online presence. (Well, I'm not sure how new-ish they are, they've been up in the blogosphere for some time now). They're famous for their $5 eyeshadows and lipsticks (called 'Lippie Stix'). Their eyeshadows are unique in that they're a sort-of-but-not-really cream formula.

While I own several shades from the main line, they recently came out with a limited edition spring collection that had several pastel shades. I've don't have any pastel shades and these immediately caught my eye, so I got a few. I wanted to put this review up as soon as I could so that you could get your hands on them in time, if you like the look of them!

Reddit exchange goodies! (lots of pictures!)

A while ago I was involved in a makeup exchange on Reddit, and I received my package yesterday and proceeded to go nuts.

I'm fairly certain my swap-mate is both a magician and a mind reader because she picked out the products I've been lusting after for ages!

I haven't yet tried out any of the things I got (except for the chocolates, of course) but I hope to review them in the upcoming weeks :D

In the meantime I wanted to show you all the wonderful things she got me. Anna, if you're reading this, you are awesome and amazeballs and THANK YOU SO MUCH!

Sheer lipsticks - a succulent option for spring!

Now that the weather is starting to warm up, my dreams for warmer temperatures are coming true! Although I'm now terrified the thermometer will start climbing at a crazy rate and we'll soon be hit hard by the notorious Texas summer. In the meantime, I'm enjoying the sip-on-mimosas weather here and I've adjusted some of my makeup stash accordingly.

I usually like my lipsticks rich and pigmented, but of late I've been digging the sheerer formulas. The past week or so I've been reaching for good ol' lipgloss over my (myriad) lipsticks. Still, lipgloss is nice and all, but I really like the juiciness and gel-like look that some lipsticks can provide.

Here are some options ranging from drugstore to high end!
