NYX Butter Lipgloss Review

Continuing with the NYX reviews, something that I had heard raves about were the NYX Butter glosses. So when they came out with some new shades, I decided to try them out for myself.

The Butter Glosses are packaged in a tube that's color coordinated to the shade of the gloss - definitely something I appreciate since it helps me pick out the shade I want amidst the myriad of products I have. It comes with a sponge-tipped doefoot applicator that does the job quite nicely.

NYX Soft Matte Lip Cream Review

Part of my NYX sale order included their Soft Matte Lip Creams in  two of the new shades that they released.

Now, I have tried the Soft Matte Lip Cream formula before (I believe I had Antwerp and Stockholm) and... I detested them. I did not like them at all, I did not like how they felt on my lips, and certainly did not understand why everyone else liked them so much.

Given how much I disliked them it surprised even me that I popped two of these into my basket!

NYX Butter Lipstick Review

A while ago, NYX had a sale going on in their website, and given that they had a bunch of new lip products out, I decided I'd give in and get a few to try out (I gave a sneak peek a while ago). Having had a bit of time to play around with them, brace yourself for a flood of NYX lip product reviews over the next few days!

One of the products I was most excited about was their Butter Lipsticks. I will admit I was caught up in the bubbles of excitement from the blogging world, which is why I caved. I'm so glad I did though, these have definitely won me over!

MAC Magnetic Nude Extra Dimension blushes review

The MAC Magnetic Nude collection came out sometime last year, and it wasn't until about two weeks ago that I decided to pick up two of the three blushes from the collection. Luckily, they were still available, and after doing quite a bit of reading I decided that I definitely needed Autoerotique and Pleasure Model.

Weekly Favorites #2

  • Lorac Unzipped palette - believe me when I say this is a gorgeous palette filled with warm toned, gold and rose gold and pink shades. It has a mix of shimmer and matte, and while there are one or two shadows that are neutral leaning slightly cool, the palette overall is a hit for those of us with warm undertones.
  • Tarte Amazonian Clay 12-hour blush in Exposed - there's a reason why Tarte blushes are widely popular and that's because of the pigmentation and the staying power. This blush can easily last me up to 6 hours, and that's on my bare, oily skin! Exposed is the perfect daily blush, a warm nude brown-pink that's sure to suit a many skintones.
  • Performance Colors matte lipstick in Rosewood - Performance Colors is an indie store operating through Etsy, and they have some of the most pigmented yet comfortable matte lipsticks I've come across. Pigmentation is off the roof, your lips won't look like the Sahara after wearing these, and they do stain the lips. They last a good 4-5 hours on me, through light eating and drinking.
  • Bare Minerals Luminizer in The Love Affair - this is a light rose-champagne gold highlighter that doesn't have chunks of glitter in it. It's subtle, and adds a wonderful glow to the cheekbones. I've been liking it for the warm weather we've been having here of late!

What I'm eyeing during the Sephora Chic Week sale...

I believe Sephora has a sale twice a year - one in Spring, and one in Fall, meant for members of their rewards program (the Beauty Insider program).

I've been waiting for this as I've been eyeing quite a few things from the store and the sale gives me a perfect excuse to indulge myself.

What have I set my sights on? Well take a look for yourself!

  • Hourglass Ambient blushes - these have been on the rave list of almost every blogger. I did swatch these in store and was worried that they were too chalky, but on the cheeks, it's a lovely glow-y flush.
  • Bare Minerals pressed eyeshadow palettes - I have heard a lot of great things about the formula of these pressed palettes and I quite look forward to testing them out for myself. Playing with them in-store, I found them to be soft, creamy and pigmented, so can't wait to snag these babies!
  • Hourglass Opaque Rouge liquid lipstick - these are touted to be the long lasting lipsticks to end all long lasting lipsticks. Budge-proof, smudge-proof, fade-proof and non-drying.. yep, need to check these out!
  • Clinique Cheek Pop blushes - just look at how cute they are!
  • Hourglass Ambient Lighting powders - yes, I know I have a lot of Hourglass on my list but with good reason! These are another product that have been raved about, and I must try it for myself. I have my eye on Dim Light and Radiant Light!
  • Laura Mercier Caviar Sticks - they're an eye shadow stick that are pigmented and easy to blend and good for those swipe-and-go looks or as a base for other shadows. I've swatched Amethyst and Orchid and they are downright gorgeous.

Weekly favorites #1

I have no idea why I haven't been doing this. Given the fickleness that is me, when it comes to makeup, I keep rotating between my stash quite frequently.

Given the imminent arrival of summer here I've been opting for more summer-y shades. in particular, my recent purchase of Sleek's Aruba blush has me thrilled. It is an vibrant, vivid orange shade that looks scary in the pan but downright gorgeous on the face. I'd recommend a light hand, because even on my NC42-45 skin I have to watch out not to overdo it.

With the orange-ish flush on my cheeks a lovely complement is the MAC Dreaming Dahlia liptick. This was part of the A Fantasy Of Flowers collection and one of my favorites. It's a sheer orange color that isn't glowing or too bright, but adds a warmth and glow to your face.

I've mentioned the Maybelline Color Tattoos Spring 2014 collection and I particularly am enjoying the easy swipe-and-go colors among them. In particular the Nude Compliment shade is a lovely taupey brown that lets you look pulled together with minimal effort!

I'm still in the process of testing out the Ben Nye Banana Powder (yes, I gave in to the hype) and I have to say that I'm liking it so far. I've used it to set my concealer (on most days) and foundation (on the rare occasion) and it does go a-ways in brightening and setting.

The Clinique High Impact Mascara is my tippy-toe into the world of mascara, as it gives me definition without exaggerating length or volume - and makes it perfect for everyday use.

Maybelline Color Tattoos - Spring 2014 Dare To Go Nude Shades Review and Swatches

Now I'm a huge fan of eye shadows and try to make it a point to wear them every day (how well I wear them is another question altogether). However my love for a nicely-done eye is rivaled by my love for sleep and there have been several mornings when I've woken up too late to pull myself together as leisurely as I'd like.Times like these are when the Color Tattoos come in handy.

The Color Tattoos are a widely reviewed product at this time, so I'll keep my review brief.

Maybelline Color Tattoos are a cream eyeshadow product that come in quite sturdy jars (seriously, don't drop one of these babies on your foot, it'll hurt). They are long lasting and crease resistant, and very pigmented.

The flipsides are, well, they actually aren't crease resistant on me, but that's thanks to my oil-slick lidsm and your mileage may vary. Another issue is blending - these aren't exactly conducive to blending, and excel better at a stand alone, slap-them-on-your-lids-and-rush-out-the-door product.

There are quite a few permanent shades in this line, and seasonal collections that Maybelline keeps putting out. The Dare To Go Nude Collection is out for Spring 2014, and features 6 new, limited edition Color Tattoos. I have four of them for review today.

First attempt at indie shadow pressing!

I've been slowly getting into indie cosmetics. There are lots of advantages to going for indie companies, including very pigmented products, personalized service, you know exactly what goes into the products, very affordable prices and some very unique and different colors!

I randomly stumbled across Chinovi Cosmetics one day when they were having a 50% sale (I love sales!) and even though Googling them did not produce many results, they had a limited edition collection that caught my eyes - called Oh My Gods.

The shades were named after Ancient Greek Gods and Goddesses! Now if you know me, I'm a huge, huge lover of all mythology, and Greek mythology is one of my favorites. So this collection, and the fact that it was on sale... clearly the universe wanted me to have it.

I purchased samples of the collection with the intent of pressing them - I'm not very good at dealing with loose shadows. And so I thought I'd give it a shot today!

Currently on the lust list...

Image credit: Hakuhodo brushes from shamelessfripperies.com, Shiro inertubes from phyrra.net, MAC lipsticks from athickgirlscloset.com
Spring is here (well, kind of) and summer will soon follow which means time for all the brights to shine! Along with a change in the closet will be a change in the makeup wardrobe and I'm looking forward to a few things to spruce up my collection:
  • MAC lipsticks - these are a favorite for a reason. I got my first one a little while ago and I'm in love.. Looking forward to picking up Vegas Volt and Crosswires for summer!
  • Hakuhodo brushes - I like my RT brushes but some days the eye brushes don't seem to pick up and deposit enough color on my lid... I was debating about whether or not to invest in MAC but didn't quite feel like putting down the money for them! That's when I came across these brushes - Hakuhodo is a Japanese brand and all their brushes are hand made. They are as good (if not better!) than MAC brushes and are also cheaper than MAC! They have a good selection and it has been tough trying to narrow them down to only a few.
  • The new Too Faced A La Mode has my name all over it - with those lovely corals, browns and that navy blue, I definitely need this palette and can envision quite a few looks!
  • Shiro intertubes - I have been dipping my feet into the world of indie makeup of late, and Shiro Cosmetics are one of my favorite companies. Their intertubes are supposed to be pigmented yet comfortable to wear, and I'm looking forward to trying them out for myself! Plus they have a few quite outlandish and fun colors!
That's what's on my lust list this week? What products are you looking forward to adding to your arsenal? Let me know!

Sneak peek - lip edition

It may not come as a surprise to learn that I'm very, very fond of lip products. I still haven't found my HG yet - most lippies last about 4 hours on me, and reapplying is not my forte - nevertheless, I like them, and have quite a few of them.

One of my favorite drugstore brands is NYX. I think the formula is great, pigmentation is amazing, and it's very decently priced. While they tend to be hit-or-miss, most often than not they have some lovely stuff.

Here are a couple of things I picked up when they were having a sale (in depth reviews to follow soon)

Soft matte lip cream - new shades
Butter gloss - new shades
Matte lipstick - new shades
Butter lipsticks - new products!
I've been testing them for a while, and am really enjoying them - a some of them take a little more work than others, but suffice to say I'm pleased with the lot!

Back to regular schedule, and recent haulages

I suppose the title is self explanatory; and no, I have no excuses for not blogging other than writer's block and general laziness (which I suppose are excuses, but oh well...)

I've been trying to fine-tune my collection of late, going for products which are worth while, as opposed to going crazy at the drugstore (which isn't a bad thing - I think I'm at the stage where I'd rather pick one or two good products over a bunch of products that would be hit-or-miss).

Without further ado, here are some things I've picked up over the past couple of weeks
